Every year, US Soy hosts a design competition for college students to utilize soy-based materials. Judges included representatives from design and textile industries, U.S. soybean farmers, and Qualified State Soybean Boards. They based their decision on several key areas, including originality, innovation, practicality, and execution. I wove a swatch of rainbow-hued Swiss twill and mocked it up into a bucket hat that is fun and cute for the summer months, while also using materials with a low impact on the Earth. The Soy and Sun Hat won first place in the school and national competition!
